Excessive hair growth in women

Excessive hair growth in women is called hirsutism. It appears on the chin, jawline, neck, upper lip, face, décolleté, chest, arms and legs.

Hirsutism is most often hormonal in origin, linked to polycystic ovaries, menopause or genetic predisposition. Research has shown that excessive hair growth in women can be successfully treated with light therapies.

Excessive hair growth in men

Men mostly remove excess hair for aesthetic reasons, and IPL hair removal is also increasingly popular among athletes.

A common problem with excessive hair in men is ingrown hair at the tailbone, known as a pilonidal sinus. A pilonidal sinus is an infection caused by an ingrown hair. After medical treatment (surgery), it is successfully managed with intense pulsed light.

Where can IPL permanent hair removal be used?

IPL hair removal can be used on almost every part of the body, and in our salon we offer treatments for:

  • face (chin, upper lip, full face, sideburns)
  • legs
  • bikini area
  • abdominal line
  • underarms
  • arms
  • back
  • shoulders and neck
  • groin
  • buttocks

How does the IPL Anthelia Eurofeedback device work?

The IPL device emits a specific wavelength that targets the hair pigment.

The pigment absorbs the light, which is converted into heat and destroys the cells responsible for hair growth.

Hairs connected to the root (the anagen phase) are 100% eliminated for good.

Other hairs continue their growth cycle. The growth phases change depending on the treated area and vary from 3 to 8 weeks.

Why choose the IPL Anthelia Eurofeedback treatment?

This unique intense pulsed light method from IPL Eurofeedback Paris removes not only dark hair but also brown and red hair.

It also does not require additional shaving, and there is no risk of spreading hair growth.

IPL Anthelia Eurofeedback was developed by EFB Beaute, a French IPL manufacturer known for its own technological solutions that make it a unique maker of such devices worldwide.

EFB Beaute is certified to ISO quality standards ISO 9001 and ISO 13485.

EFB has registered 17 unique patents in more than 80 countries for devices for long-term removal of unwanted hair.

About the treatment

Preparing for the treatment:

  • Right before the treatment, the client must confirm that they have not:
    • used a solarium in the week before the treatment
    • spent several hours sunbathing in the week before the treatment
    • taken any supplements that affect skin tone (such as beta carotene) in the two weeks before the treatment
    • bleached their hair
    • removed hair with an invasive method (wax, sugaring, electrolysis) in the two weeks before the treatment.

The treatment:

Hair is trimmed right before the treatment, or the client can shave with a regular razor 2 or 3 days beforehand.

Before the treatment starts, ice or an anaesthetic cream can be applied to the area to reduce sensation.

A gel is then applied and the applicator, which emits intense pulsed light (IPL), is placed on the skin to destroy the hair root.

The treatment is relatively quick and its length varies. For example, treating the upper lip takes 5 minutes, while full legs take about an hour.

After the treatment

Mild redness or a reaction of the hair follicles may appear after the treatment. This happens in only 10% of clients and disappears within an hour.

If needed, the reaction can be soothed with ice or an antibiotic cream.

We also recommend avoiding the solarium and strong sun for the next 2 to 3 days.

For three weeks before the next treatment, hair must not be removed with any of your previous methods, as this has the opposite effect. If any hairs grow back, it is best to trim them with scissors.

Does the treatment need to be repeated?

For complete removal of unwanted hair, the treatment needs to be repeated 4 to 8 times depending on hair growth, at intervals of 4 to 6 weeks.

When will I see results?

Results are most visible after 15 to 20 days, but a significant reduction in hair growth is noticeable after the very first treatment, and the hairs that grow back are softer and thinner.

Not skipping treatments is very important for the result. The first 2 treatments are the most important for long-lasting results.

Who is the treatment for?

Treatment with the revolutionary IPL Anthelia Eurofeedback device is suitable for all skin types.

Who is the IPL Anthelia Eurofeedback treatment not recommended for?

  • Pregnant and breastfeeding women
  • People with fresh burns or new wounds
  • People with heart problems, cancer, infections, herpes, HIV and similar conditions
  • People taking photosensitising medication
  • People with very dark skin (type VI)
