Why is hand care important?

Hand care at a salon in Zagreb

You should not neglect hand care, because the backs of the hands are the first to show signs of ageing.

The skin on our hands is among the thickest on the body, yet it is completely unprotected and exposed to many aggressors. It is affected by numerous external factors, from washing with drying soaps to dry air-conditioned or heated air and sunlight. That is why it is important to care for your hands so they stay as healthy and beautiful as possible.

Our hands are a means of communication. We show them all the time: when we talk and gesture, when we write, use our gadgets or drive, so they say a lot about us. The skin on our hands is very taut, and to keep it that way we need to care for it every day, all year round.

Here are some tricks for caring for your hands at home:

Keep hand cream on your bedside table

As well as in the bathroom, kitchen and your bag, keep a rich hand cream next to your bed. To keep the skin on your hands healthy and nourished, it is important to moisturise before bed, because the skin barrier is more permeable at night.

Cuticle care

When caring for your hands, do not forget your cuticles. If you neglect them, they can dry out and crack.

Get some gloves

The best hand care is prevention, so wear gloves whenever you work, whether in the garden or the kitchen. This protects your skin from damage and your nails from breaking. To turn washing up into a nourishing treatment, apply a generous layer of cream before putting on your gloves and getting to work.

Dry your hands thoroughly after every wash

Although you may think more water on your hands means more moisture, in this case it is important to dry your hands completely after each wash. Water can wash away the lipids in the skin barrier, which are essential for keeping the skin well hydrated. It is especially important to apply cream after washing. This daily routine will prevent dry skin from coming back and keep your hands happy.

Drink plenty of water

Dry skin can also be caused by not drinking enough, so make sure you drink plenty of fluids.

Treat yourself to a professional manicure and paraffin bath at least once a month
